MUSIC FOR STORY: Beautiful Nature & Water Sounds

SCENE 1

NARRATION [0:00-1:08]

Climate change has become a troubling global phenomenon, with several countries doing everything in their power to limit its occurrences. Some causes of climate change in the environment include stone quarrying, sand winning, and deforestation. In Ghana, the EPA has implemented rules and regulations to control the extraction of raw materials such as stone and sand to mitigate the effects of climate change on the environment and living creatures.

But how do these rules and regulations affect those involved in sand and stone winning?

SCENE 2

PROJECT ENGINEER VT [1:08-1:49]

How can the improper disposal of construction materials be managed or abolished? Construction materials such as blocks, used cement papers, and iron rods can be minimized and managed properly by recycling or repurposing them. For example, iron rods can be collected and sent to recycling industries, generating revenue. Broken blocks can be used as ground filling before gravel filling is applied. Used cement papers are often bought by people at the site, and sometimes we burn them at the site.

SCENE 3

A PROJECT WORKER VT [1:49-2:27]

What are the effects on your health if you don't use safety gear like hand gloves, helmets, and safety boots?

Safety gear is crucial when working on a construction site because it protects against injury and loss of life. Wearing a helmet can protect your head from accidents, gloves can prevent cuts on your hands, and safety boots can protect your legs from injuries. Overall, using safety gear is essential to avoid any form of injury.

SCENE 4

NARRATION [2:28-2:39]

This shows how depleted the lands look and how it has destroyed the homes of some living organisms, changed the climate, and caused erosion on the land.

SCENE 6

NARRATION: [2:59-3:03]

Sand winning has become so rampant that almost every piece of land is vulnerable. Farmers continue to harbor fears as they don't know when their farms will be destroyed. Crops are often vandalized to facilitate sand collection.

SCENE 7

PROJECT ENGINEER: [3:04-3:28]

How many blocks and cement, including water, are needed for a startup building project to completion? 150 bags of cement are needed from the foundation level to the casting, and the casting alone consumes 100 bags of cement.

SCENE 8

PROJECT ENGINEER: [3:48-4:02]

How is the concrete mixture done to make it last long and be stronger?

The mix is done with two parts gravel, one part sand, and half a bag of cement to create a full concrete mix in the concrete machine for casting.

SCENE 10

NARRATION [4:03-4:09]

The government should introduce policies to regulate and check unsustainable building and construction practices.

SCENE 13

NARRATION [4:35-4:40]

The environmental cost of unsustainable building and construction is high, leading to deforestation, habitat loss, and pollution.
